WARWICK RODEO IN QUEENSLAND 24-27

ALICE Springs rider Tom Willoughby will be one of the favourites for the bull ride at the Warwick Rodeo in Queensland on October 24-27.

Formerly from Gawler in South Australia, Willoughby qualified for the National Finals Rodeo for a third time in June.

Willoughby is currently sixth on the bull ride standings after the first five months of the new Australian Professional Rodeo Association season.

He moved up the standings after winning the bull ride at Katherine and Darwin rodeos in August.

Willoughby scored 78 to win at Darwin from runner up Kurt Sheppard, of Atherton, in Queensland. Mark Lamberth , of Humpty Doo, finished third.

The Alice Springs cowboy is 15th in all around cowboy standings in the APRA.

There are plenty of Northern Territory riders in with a chance to qualify in the top 15 for the next National Finals Rodeo.

Patrick Webster (Palmerston) is 17th in the bareback, Patrick Saitz (Humpty Doo) 14th in team roping heeler standings, Nicole McDonald (Newcastle Waters) 10th in all around and 17th in the barrel race and Chloe Abbott (Virginia) third in breakaway roping.

There are more than 500 nominations for the Warwick Rodeo, including 66 in the barrel race and 56 for the open bull ride. Mt Isa and Warwick rodeos are the two with the most nominations and most prize money in the APRA.
