TAROOM RODEO ON SATURDAY

WANDOAN cowboys Cameron Webster and David Worsfold and Central Queensland stars Shane Iker and Clancy Middleton will be four to watch as the Australian Professional Rodeo Association Northern Run starts at the Taroom Showgrounds at 2pm on Saturday. (July 19)
There are 300 nominations for the Taroom Rodeo, including 37 in breakaway roping, 21 in the saddle bronc and 20 in the bull ride.

Webster suffered a leg injury late last season but returns at his hometown rodeo after winning the pro tour title for most money won last year. He has drawn the Garry McPhee horse Chantelle at Wandoan but will need to be in his best form to beat current titleholder Peter Moffatt who has drawn Smidt.

Moffatt lives at Augathalla and is formerly from Millmerran.
Worsford won the bareback at the Taroom Rodeo last year and has the chance for back-to-back wins if he can ride well on the horse Injune. His greatest opposition will come from NSW and former Gore rider Fred Osman who won last year’s title. Osman will aim for a high-scoring eight-second ride on Spider Man.

In timed events for cowboys, current all around APRA titleholder Shane Iker, of Alton Downs, will start favourite just ahead of Emerald rider Clancy Middleton who has been one of the best performers on the pro tour in the past decade.
The cowgirls will be out in force at Taroom with all around standings leader Jill Lyons, of Gracemere, heading a strong Central Queensland contingent set to battle it out against a field including Mt Tarampa star Cheyenne Whitwell.

Rodeo action on the APRA Northern Run is scheduled on the next seven weekends.

Rodeo Program: July 19 Taroom; July 26 Richmond; August 1-2 Cloncurry; August 8-10 Mt Isa; August 16 Katherine (NT); August 23 Darwin (NT); August 30 Mataranka (NT).
