WENDY CABAN TO BE AT MILLMERRAN RODEO

MOREE cowgirl Wendy Caban has the chance to increase her lead in Australian Professional Rodeo Association standings at the Millmerran Show Rodeo on February 28.

The rodeo will be the first in Southern Queensland this year and it is expected to attract the best of the best from northern New South Wales and most of Queensland.

One of the closest battles in the APRA is for the all around cowgirl pro tour buckle for most prize money won in the season.

Caban has a narrow lead in the all around over two Queensland event leaders, Jill Lyons (Gracemere) and Jane Fay (Warra).

Lyons is the APRA standings leader in barrel racing and Fay in breakaway roping but prize money in all events makes up all around tallies.

Caban and Table Top rider Stephanie Gard are the only two New South Wales riders in the top 15 in the all around standings.

In individual events, Caban is third in both barrel racing and breakaway roping so will qualify in the top-15 to compete in the national finals at the Warwick Australian Championships Rodeo on October 22-25.

Millmerran rider John McNamee is 10th in saddle bronc standings and will be one to watch at his hometown rodeo on February 28.

In the bull ride at Millmerran, Upper Horton rider Jackson Gill has improved to seventh in the standings and will be strong chance for a place.

Walcha rider Carl Green is second in saddle bronc and 14th in the bull ride and is a likely starter at Millmerran as he needs prize money in the bull ride to stay in the top-15 and qualify for the finals.

Standings leaders:

All around cowboy – Shane Kenny (Emerald, Qld)
Saddle bronc – Michael Maher (Warwick, Qld)
Bull ride – Roy Dunn (Proserpine, Qld)
Bareback bronc ride – David Worsfold (Wandoan, Qld)
