BUNYIP RIDER READY TO STAR

Bunyip rider ready to star at Kyabram, Merrijig and Chiltern rodeos this weekend

BUNYIP rider Shianne O’Donoghue-Kent has taken the lead in Australian Professional Rodeo Association barrel racing standings and goes into this weekend’s three rodeos in Victoria as one of the favourites.

Shianne is just out of juniors but is mixing it with the best in the business and winning more than her share.

There are between 30 and 50 nominations in each of the cowgirl events in the long weekend rodeos at Kyabram, Merrijig and Chiltern this weekend including a large number of Queensland and New South Wales riders seeking prize money to press their chances of a top-15 finish by the end of the season on April 30 and automatic qualification for the national finals.

The first of the weekend rodeos is at Kyabram on Friday, then Merrijig has a Saturday rodeo and Chiltern on Sunday.

Shianne won’t have it all her own way this weekend with her aunt and APRA legend Cherie O’Donoghue one of the riders to beat at the three long weekend rodeos.

Willung rider Leslie Moore is second in APRA all around standings and third in the barrel race so will be one of the favourites.

Maldon cowgirl Casey-Lee Collins is third in breakaway roping standings and will be one to watch this weekend.

In rough stock events, the interstate contingent will be led by saddle bronc pair Michael Maher (Warwick, Qld) and Brad Pierce (Tooma, NSW). Pierce is a past world rookie all around champion.

Docher bull rider Bryden Atkins was a star as a junior and has continued his outstanding form into the senior ranks and is the rider with the greatest chance of a treble in Victoria this weekend.

Friday 6th March – Kyabram Rodeo, 7pm at Kyabram Showgrounds.

Saturday 7th March – Merrijig Rodeo, 6:30pm at McCormack Park.

Sunday 8th March – Chiltern Rodeo, 6pm at Chiltern Racecourse Reserve.
