WARRA rider Jane Fay has finished the season with dual success in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association, the standings lead in breakaway roping and a share of the record.

For the first time, the former Northern Territory cowgirl has finished a season with the standings lead.

She made sure of the lead with a new joint record time of 1.8 seconds in winning the breakaway roping at the Alstonville Rodeo in northern New South Wales in late April.

Fay has joined Kym Ash from Comet as the record holder after Ash clocked the same time last year at her hometown rodeo.

She won’t be the only south Queensland rider with a standings lead going into the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships on October 22-25.

Warwick cowboy Michael Maher is on top of saddle bronc standings from fellow Warwick rider Mark Collins while David Worsfold, of Wandoan, just beat Toowoomba rider Owen Lee in the battle for the end of season standings lead in the bareback bronc ride.

Central Queensland riders are in APRA standings leads in two events, Shane Kenny, of Emerald, in the rope and tie, and fellow Emerald rider Brody Moss in team roping heeler standings.

There was plenty of North Queensland success in the APRA this season with Clancy Middleton (Hughenden) the best among the team roping headers and Roy Dunn (Prosperpine) the top exponent in the bull ride.

Competitors are enjoying a break from APRA action until the Nebo Rodeo on May 23 which is a chance for riders to take the early lead in new season standings.

The first 10 rodeos of the new season are in Queensland and then Northern Territory rodeo groups will host three rodeos in August.
