ALTON Downs rider Jared Borghero has won double the prize money of the next best bull rider in the first four months of the Australian Professional Rodeo Association season.

Borghero made sure he walked away from the richest APRA rodeo in the nation in Mt Isa in August with plenty of prize money after being  the only rider to make time in the final.

He scored 75 for equal sixth in round 1 and won the final with 86 and the aggregate with a combined score of 161 from round 1 winner Roy Dunn, of Proserpine, on 83.

Due to his success early in the season, Borghero is already assured of a spot in the October, 2017, national finals at The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals.

Borghero is the only standings leader with twice as much prize money in an event this season than the next best.

His brother Jay was equal third in the aggregate at Mt Isa to move into fifth in the new season standings and looks a genuine chance to finish in the top-15 and qualify for the 2017 finals.

Queensland is the home of all the leaders in rough stock events in the APRA. Michael Maher (saddle bronc, Warwick) and David Worsfold (bareback, Wandoan) head their respective event standings after four months of the new season.

Emerald rider Shane Kenny and Shane Iker from Alton Downs have often battled it out for the pro tour lead in the all around and that is the case again this year. Iker’s son Jordan is also in the mix at the top of the leader board.

Kenny leads from Jordan Iker with Shane Iker third in the all around.

In the barrel race standings, Jaimi Downing from Clermont is only $3 in prize money behind leader Jo Caldwell from New South Wales. Caldwell also leads the all around  from Queensland rider Bridie Davison.

Standings leaders in new season: All around Shane Kenny (Emerald), saddle bronc Michael Maher (Warwick), bull ride Jared Borghero (Alton Downs), bareback David Worsfold (Wandoan), rope and tie Mark Knox (Ebenezer), steer wrestling Lachlan O’Neill (Caboolture), team roping header Shane Kenny (Emerald), team roping heeler Cameron Milner (Townsville), all around cowgirl Jo Caldwell (Murrurundi), barrel race Jo Caldwell (Murrurundi), breakaway roping Leanne Caban (Emerald).

APRA Program: October 2 Marrabel (SA) 79th Rodeo; October 19 Hobart Bulls and Barrels (Tas); October 27-30 The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals.

November 5 Keith (SA), Melton Mowbray (Tas), November 12 Kapunda (SA); November 19 Rouse Hill Xtreme Bulls (NSW).
