MOUNT ISA RODEO SUCCESS

ONLY two riders made time in all three rounds of the open bull ride at the Mt Isa Rotary Rodeo which finished on Sunday.

Rohan Markham won overall in the bull ride with a three-round score of 238 from Josh Jones on 236.5.
Aaron Kleier was third on 174 points. Kleier split first in the second round with 85 and scored 89 in the final, the highest individual score in any of the bull rides at Mt Isa.
The bulls had a clear-cut win against the cowboys in second-division with only one rider, Cody Kelly, securing two scores.
In the junior bull ride, Liam Wellby was the only rider to record two times so was a clear winner.
Larry Cooper recorded the only score, 64, to win the over 40s bull ride at Mt Isa.
Emerald riders Campbell Hodson and Ellysa Kenny each won an all around title at Mt Isa.
Hodson won the rope and tie from Warwick rider Brock Eastwell with a time of 23.25 seconds over two rounds. Hodson was second behind United States rider Stockton Graves in the steer wrestling.
United States pair Cody McCluskey and Joe Maddern won the team roping by a margin of 4.4 seconds when they had a combined two round time of 14.4 seconds.
Queensland pair Cameron Milner and Ty Pokarier were second and Victorian riders Terry Evison and Aaron Bookluck third.
In the ladies breakaway roping, United States rider Shelby Boisjoli won with a two-round time of 8.1 seconds from Queensland rider Angela Simpson on 8.2.
In the international challenge between North America and Australia, the visitors won seven of the head-to-head clashes in the eight APRA events.
The only Australian winner was bull rider Aaron Kleier who recorded 85.5 points, his third score over 80 at Mt Isa.
United States bull rider Riley Blankenship didn’t record a score in the challenge.
Some of the riders who competed at Mt Isa will stay in the north for Rodeo’s at North Queensland Elite in Townsville (16-17 August), Darwin Rodeo, Northern Territory (17 August) and The Frontier Days Festival in Burketown (18 August)
The North Queensland Elite Rodeo will be held at a rodeo arena on Harvey Range Rd at Townsville and has attracted massive entries, including 36 in steer wrestling.
After a second place at Mt Isa, Campbell Hodson will start favourite against what could be described as a who’s who of timed event stars.
New South Wales rider Cody Angland won the saddle bronc with 157 points at Mt Isa and is also competing in Townsville.
