Board Vacancy – Volunteer Executive Director (2 positions)

The AU Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join its Board as a Volunteer Executive Director.


About the AU Professional Rodeo Association
The APRA was formed in 1944 and is the national governing body for professional rodeo competition in Australia and is recognised as the oldest national rodeo organisation in the world. APRA’s head office is located in Warwick, Queensland.

The Association has recently transitioned to a Company Limited by Guarantee model, strengthening its governance framework and positioning APRA for sustainable growth, accountability and long-term success.

APRA is dedicated to the development and control of professional rodeo competition across Australia. The richest and most prestigious rodeos form part of the national circuit, culminating each year at the National Finals Rodeo, where Australian Champions are crowned.

About the Role
Executive Directors play a critical role in the governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability of APRA. This is a volunteer, appointed position, suited to individuals who are passionate about professional sport, strong governance and contributing to a nationally significant organisation.

As an appointed position, the role of Executive Director is for a duration of three (3) years, in accordance with APRA’s Constitution and governance framework.

The Board is seeking two (2) candidates who are available to commence as soon as practicable.

Commitment to attend Board and Committee meetings that are held fortnightly or monthly, with additional ad hoc meetings as required. Meetings may be conducted both in-person and via online platforms.

Skills and Experience
APRA is particularly seeking candidates with demonstrated experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Legal (corporate, governance, compliance or risk)
  • Finance (financial management, accounting, audit or financial oversight)
  • Human Resources (people governance, industrial relations, workforce strategy or organisational development)

Previous board or committee experience is highly regarded, as is a strong understanding of governance principles within not-for-profit or sporting organisations.
