EMERALD cowboy Kacey Kenny will be one of the favourites for the steer wrestling at the Darwin Rodeo on August 23-24.
Kenny won the steer wrestling at the Cloncurry Merry Muster early this month in a time of 3.35 seconds.
South Australian cowboy Rodney Reynolds will provide tough opposition for Kenny after finishing second in round 1, fifth in round 2 and first overall at Mt Isa.
Cloncurry steer wrestler Dean McIntyre has won at his hometown rodeo and has the chance to win prize money in the Northern Territory this weekend.
South Australian rider Tom Willoughby is one of the favourites for the bull ride.
Glen Kent from Strathalbyn in South Australia has won national titles in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association and is short-priced favourite for the saddle bronc ride in Darwin.
Darwin is one of only five rodeos over two or more days in the APRA and one of the richest on the circuit. There are 144 nominations for the eight championship events in the APRA.
The second rodeo in the APRA this weekend is a rodeo for circuit points at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve, west of Warwick, from 1.30pm Saturday.
The rodeo will raise funds for the Pratten/Bony Mountain Disaster Relief Appeal which was set up after a severe storm earlier this year hit homes and farms in the area and facilities at the recreation reserve.
Bareback stars Matthew Makinson and Clint Burton will be two of the high profile riders at a rodeo which focuses on rough stock events and three ladies barrel races.
