AT age 30, Wandoan bareback rider David Worsfold will be seeking his first title in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association at the National Finals Rodeo at the Queensland State Equestrian Centre on May 1-4 at Caboolture.
Worsfold competed successfully in North America before returning home to Wandoan where he is a grazier.
He is odds on to win the pro tour bareback title for most prize money in the season which ends on April 30.
If he is to win the 2014 title, Worsfold will need to stop Queensland rider Matthew Makinson winning his third successive title in the bareback bronc ride.
After living at Upper Horton in New South Wales, Makinson has been based at Peachester in south Queensland for the past year.
Makinson, 23, has a great record of two title wins in four National Finals Rodeo appearances.
Clint Burton, Toby Collins and Fred Osman will be three of the toughest riders for Worsfold and Makinson to beat at the finals.
Burton, of Miles (Qld) and Osman, of Tibooburra (NSW) and formerly from Queensland have been close to title wins in the past.
Collins lives at Maldon in Victoria and is the one rider set to compete in all three rough stock events at the 2014 National Finals Rodeo.
Stuart Frame (Monto) and Owen Lee (Toowoomba) were the remaining Queensland riders in the top 15 in bareback going into the final eight rodeos for the season which ends on April 30.
