QLD RIDERS AND ROPERS DOMINATE THE ISA

QUEENSLAND riders won six of the eight events at the richest rodeo in Australia at Mt Isa at the weekend.
The rodeo is one of the big two in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association where victory can almost assure competitors of enough prize money to qualify for the following year’s National Finals Rodeo.
The best of the best from throughout the nation head to Mt Isa each year and the most successful cowboy in history was the only rider with two top-two finishes.
Emerald rider Shane Kenny won the rope and tie and was second in steer wrestling to add another chapter to a career in which he has won 14 all around titles and 17 individual titles in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
There was more success for Emerald in team roping with Clancy Middleton and Brody Moss victorious. Moss was third in the rope and tie.
Proserpine rider Roy Dunn won the bull ride after being the only rider to record a score on two bulls at the weekend. He increased his lead in the APRA standings with his win in the north west.
Warwick cowboy Michael Maher was a convincing winner in saddle bronc with a victory in each round and overall.
In cowgirl events, Warra rider Jane Fay was an easy winner from Victorian star Anna McPhee.
Former South Hedland (WA) based rider Deon Lane who recently returned to Collinsville, Q won the bareback bronc ride competition.
Junee (NSW) cowboy Matt Hedlund beat Kenny and Calvert (Qld) rider Jesse Townsend in steer wrestling.
Like in the cowboy ranks, the best of the best rose to the occasion at Mt Isa in cowgirl events with Moree rider Wendy Caban winning the barrel race. She has won five titles in the past six years.
After four rodeos in Queensland on successive weekends, APRA Northern Run action now heads to the Northern Territory for three rodeos.
There is a short break in early September before action hots up at Tamworth, Marrabel and Narrabri in the run up to one of the top two rodeos on the APRA circuit, Warwick, on October 23-26.
Mt Isa and Warwick rodeos have the most prize money and attract the most riders.
