THE best of the best from all Queensland rodeo strongholds will be in Bundaberg for a championship points rodeo in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association in late November.
The Jimna Bull Ride on the first weekend in November and Bundaberg on November 28 are the two Queensland APRA rodeos for the month.
Queensland riders went into the Warwick Rodeo in late October on top of nine of the 11 standings lists and all are likely starters in Bundaberg along with the one leader from New South Wales, all around cowgirl and barrel racing top gun Wendy Caban, of Moree.
Two rough stock riders from Queensland have substantial leads in the standings, Warwick saddle bronc rider Michael Maher, and Roy Dunn, of Proserpine, who heads the bull ride.
Roma rider Jamie Howlett went into Warwick as the best in the bareback but Miles rider Clint Burton split first at Warwick and will be one to watch in Bundaberg.
One bareback rider likely to win prize money is Monto builder Stuart Frame who will be able to compete in Bundaberg in what will be the closest APRA rodeo of the year to his home base.
Frame formerly lived at Gracemere in Central Queensland but now has a cattle property at Monto along with his building business.
It could be a Kenny bonanza at Bundaberg with Emerald rider Shane Kenny making finals in his three timed events at the Warwick Rodeo.
He went into Warwick with the lead in rope and tie and younger brother Kacey headed the steer wrestling standings.
The third Kenny to watch in open events at Bundaberg will be Shane’s wife Leanne who was second overall in the barrel race at the Warwick Rodeo.
Hughenden rider Clancy Middleton will have a lot further to travel to Bundaberg than Kenny but is a likely starter as he works hard in a close contest for the open team roping header standings lead.
Fellow Emerald rider Brody Moss will be one of the favourites at Bundaberg in team roping after establishing an early season lead in heeler standings.
The closest battle in Bundaberg could be in breakaway roping with Jane Fay (Warra) and Tamara Knox (Ebenezer) two of the early season leaders.
