MOREE cowgirl Wendy Caban will have the chance to increase her lead in Australian Professional Rodeo Association all around standings at the Bundaberg Rodeo on Friday. (November 28)
Caban won all three cowgirl titles in the APRA in 2008 and has three of the past six all around cowgirl titles to her credit.
She won’t get it all her own way in breakaway roping at Bundaberg as Mt Tarampa (Qld) rider Cheyenne Whitwell is competing.
Going into the Warwick Rodeo on the last weekend in October, Whitwell was outside of the top-20 in roping but with a third in round 1, second in the final and first overall, she is now in third place in the standings.
Caban is on top of the all around standings due to her consistency across both events. She is second in the barrel race and ninth in breakaway roping.
She will come up against the barrel racing and breakaway roping leaders at Bundaberg.
Gracemere (Qld) rider Jill Lyons is on top of the barrel racing standings after a first in the Warwick Rodeo.
Caban is second followed by three Queenslanders, Rockhampton rider Jamie-Lee Williams, Hughenden star Tenielle Middleton and Emerald rider Leanne Kenny. New South Wales pair Bianca Hertel and current titleholder Nichole Fitzpatrick are eighth and ninth.
Jane Fay, of Warra (Qld) is the breakaway roping leader from three Queenslanders, Tamara Knox, of Ebenezer, Whitwell third and Alton Downs cowgirl Jorja Iker. Anna McPhee, of Lurg, Victoria, leads the interstate riders and is in fifth place.
Stacey Wilburn is the highest-placed New South Wales rider in seventh place with Caban ninth.
Caban’s sister in law Leanne Caban is in the field in both events at Bundaberg.
Saddle bronc standings leader Michael Maher (Warwick, Qld) heads a strong contingent of rough stock cowboys competing at Bundaberg.
