CURRYS 2015 MERRY MUSTER TO HONOUR THE

MEDIA RELEASE

9 April 2015

Curry’s 2015 Merry Muster to Honour the Anzacs

The coveted theme for the 2015 Curry Merry Muster Festival; Australia’s highest single payout professional rodeo has been announced as ‘Light Horse Regiment’.

Paying homage to the Anzac Centenary the theme was devised by Cloncurry St Joseph’s Catholic School grade 8 student Darcie-Lee Ashton as a part of the Merry Musters annual school based theme competition.

Mounted troops with characteristics of both cavalry and mounted infantry, Australian Light Horse regiments served primarily in the Second Boer War and World War I; with a number of light horse units still in existence today.

First involved in World War I when sent to provide reinforcements for the infantry during the Gallipoli Campaign they were used mainly in a defensive role, although did participate in several costly battles, such as the Battle of the Nek.

A fitting theme for an event that showcases ample examples of horsemanship, Ms Ashton won herself a family pass for the 2015 Curry Merry Muster Festival for her ingenuity, and acknowledged her grandfather’s service history as her inspiration.

To be hosted July 30 to August 2 the Curry Merry Muster Festival will be celebrating 61 years in 2015 and its second year at the new Cloncurry Equestrian Centre.

Encompassing 3 days and 3 nights of rodeo action, live entertainment and support activities such as a Teddy Bears Picnic and Bush Poets Breakfast the Light Horse Regiment theme will be best highlighted at the opening CBD Street Parade, featuring themed floats on the evening of Thursday July 30 and through the best dressed premises competition; seeing local businesses decorated in theme, embracing the spirit of Cloncurry’s largest annual event.
