MIDDLETON CONTESTS STEER WRESTLING

HUGHENDEN cowboy Clancy Middleton has form on the board when he contests the steer wrestling at the Bowen River Rodeo this weekend. (June 6-7)

Middleton won the steer wrestling at Nebo a fortnight ago in 4.15 seconds from George Wheeler who was timed at 4.35 and Jamie Reynolds on 4.4.

Emerald cowboy Kacey Kenny was sixth at Nebo in five seconds flat and has nominated for the event at Bowen River along with past APRA all around champion Shane Iker from Alton Downs.

Middleton’s wife Teneille is in a strong field in the barrel race and breakaway roping.

Rockhampton rider Jamie-Lee Williams will be one to watch in the cowgirl events after being an early season leader in all around standings last season. She was fourth in the first rodeo of the new season at Nebo in the barrel race,

Victorian rider Latteliah DeSpirt will provide plenty of opposition to the top Queenslanders like Jane Fay (Warra) and Jorja Iker (Alton Downs) who were the top two at Nebo in breakaway roping.

The Middletons won’t be the only North Queensland riders in action at Bowen River.

Nebo cowboy Jarrod Deguara will be one of the top contestants in steer wrestling.

Sonny Schafferius from Dysart will be favourite in the bull ride after finishing 3rd in the APRA season.

Townsville rider Campbell Hodson is one of the best in the nation in team roping and is part of a strong field of 25. He combined with Central Queensland rider Brendan Kenny to win at Nebo in a time of 5.05 seconds.

All eight APRA championship events will be contested at the Bowen River Rodeo, including three rough stock events, saddle bronc, bull ride and bareback bronc ride.

Nebo winners: Saddle bronc Mark Collins 83 points, bull ride Damien Herden 86, bareback bronc ride Owen Lee 79, rope and tie Shane Kenny 9.3 seconds, steer wrestling Clancy Middleton 4.15, team roping Campbell Hodson and Brendan Kenny 5.05, barrel race Shellie Miller 15.611, breakaway roping Jane Fay 2.3.

The Bowen River Rodeo will be held at the Bowen River Rodeo Grounds and will commence at 9am for both Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th.
