O'NEILL BRO'S DIFFERENT ENDS OF COUNTRY

THE O’Neill brothers will be contesting steer wrestling in different ends of the country in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association on New Year’s Day.

Jordan and Lachlan O’Neill hail from Caboolture and have featured prominently in steer wrestling standings in the APRA for the past five years.

While Jordan will compete in the Alton Downs Double Dip in Central Queensland on December 31-January 1, Lachlan will be in Victoria competing on the Christmas Run at Tumbarumba on New Year’s Day.

Currently, Jordan is 17th in APRA standings with four months of the season to go.

He and Lachlan have to move up into the top-15 to qualify for the Australian Championships next year.

Once Alton Downs is over, Jordan will head to Victoria and the brothers will both compete at Yarrawonga on January 2.

There will be plenty of families involved in the two rodeos at Alton Downs including Warwick father-and-son Jeff and Kobi Miller.

Both are accomplished ropers and a strong chance of a placing. Jeff is a past all around champion and board chairman of the APRA.

The third competitor in the family, Jeff’s wife Shellie will compete and will be aiming for at least one place at Alton Downs to maintain her fourth place in the barrel racing standings.

STANDINGS LEADERS: All around cowboy - Shane Iker (Alton Downs, Qld); saddle bronc - Michael Maher (Warwick, Qld); bull ride -Mark Lamberth (Alice Springs, NT); bareback - Jack Kidd (Qld); rope and tie Shane Kenny (Emerald, Qld); steer wrestling - Errol Frain (Yeppoon, Qld), team roping header - Clancy Middleton (Hughenden, Qld), team roping heeler Chris Cameron (Qld), all around cowgirl Wendy Caban (Moree, NSW), barrel race Jo Caldwell (NSW), breakaway roping Kelly Eastlake (NSW)
