Early year rodeos in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania
TOOMA cowboy Brad Pierce has secured placings in New South Wales and Victorian rodeos over the holiday period to prove he is the one to beat in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association this year.
Pierce won the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championship in October in Queensland and started the Christmas Run with a win at Myrtleford and then a second at Tumbarumba and third at Yarrawonga.
One of the most excited cowboys during the Christmas Run was Ben Hall who won the bareback in his hometown rodeo at Tumbarumba with a score of 78.
Rodeo action will hot up in the first three months of the year in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia with 28 Australian Professional Rodeo Association events scheduled.
There will be a rodeo at the Healesville Racecourse at Armstrong Grove, Yarra Valley in Victoria on January 16 and then two rodeos in Tasmania, Harveydale on January 26 and Ulverstone on January 30.
The Wilmington Rodeo in South Australia on January 30 is one of the longest running rodeos in the APRA and is on the same day as a rodeo at Wagga Wagga in New South Wales.
Riders from as far as Queensland will travel south for three rodeos on the long weekend on March 11-13 in Victoria.
There will be four rodeos in Victoria, two in New South Wales and four in Queensland on the four days of Easter.
Competitors will use the Easter weekend and a rodeo at Corryong on April 2 as the last chance to earn championship points with a view to finishing in the top-15 and qualifying for the Australian Championships this year.
