NSW and Victoria success in border rodeos
RIDERS from Goulburn and Lockington starred in January rodeos each side of the NSW/Victoria border.
Emma Peters from Towrang (NSW) won three of the four cowgirl events at Finley (NSW) and Beechworth (Vic).
She won the barrel race and breakaway roping at Finley and backed up the next day to win the barrel race at Beechworth.
Kimber hails from Lockington in Victoria and won the rope and tie at Beechworth and the steer wrestling at Finley.
Earlier in the Christmas Run, Kimber won the rope and tie at Yarrawonga by .1 of a second from runner-up Glen Perkins from Bacchus Marsh (Vic). Kimber and Perkins made their trip to Carrieton in South Australia worthwhile with a win in team roping.
Kimber was the most successful cowboy over the three weekends of the Christmas Run with four wins. It was an outstanding effort to win a double in the rope and tie as steer wrestling was his best event at last year’s Australian championships.
Peters is making a late charge for the top-15 and qualification for the 2016 Australian championships.
The top-15 in each APRA event will qualify for the championships.
She will have plenty of opportunities in the next three months to compete in championship points rodeos as 27 more rodeos are scheduled this season.
The next APRA rodeo in New South Wales will be at Wagga Wagga on January 30 and the next Victorian rodeo at Ballarat on February 13.
Many interstate riders will head to Victoria for three rodeos on the long weekend, March 11-13 in Victoria.
There will be four rodeos in Victoria, two in New South Wales and four in Queensland on the four days of Easter.
