RODEOS will be held in New South Wales at Hay and Dubbo this weekend. (Feb 20)
While the Hay Twilight Rodeo will be a full Australian Professional Rodeo Association event with all eight championship events, a XXXX Gold Xtreme Bulls event will be held at Dubbo.
This season, the two best bull riders in the APRA are Northern Territory pair Darcy McBean and Mark Lamberth.
Three of the New South Wales bull riders who are hard to beat at any rodeo are Troy Wilkinson (Upper Horton), Sean Lynch (Wagga Wagga) and Brad Pierce (Tooma). Pierce also stars in saddle bronc, an event where he is the current Australian champion.
The Xtreme Bulls promotion is a new concept in the APRA but was a great success at Penrith.
The Hay Rodeo will attract some of the best competitors in the nation as they chase prize money to boost their chances of qualification for the 2016 APRA National Finals.
The top 15 in each event will qualify for the championships.
Scone rider Kelly Westlake is the only New South Wales leader in APRA standings. She is on top of the standings in breakaway roping and has entered at Hay Rodeo.
As is nearly always the case, Moree cowgirl Wendy Caban is in the top five in APRA all around cowgirl standings. She is currently third behind leader Cherie O’Donoghue from Victoria.
Caban and O’Donoghue are two of the most successful cowgirls in the past decade in the APRA.
There are 191 nominations for the Hay Twilight Rodeo which will start at 6:30pm at the Hay Showgrounds.
The XXXX Gold Xtreme Bulls event at Dubbo starts at 7pm at the Macquarie inn, Dubbo, and has attracted 20 of the best bull riders in the nation.
