Victorian standings leaders from Lockington, Bunyip, Nilma North and Leongatha
VICTORIAN riders are dominating the top of the leader board in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
With less than a month of the current rodeo season to go, Victoria has six of the 11 standings leaders.
Lockington (Vic) rider Terry Evison heads the APRA all around cowboy standings and Stephanie Gard (Lavington, NSW) is on top of the cowgirl standings.
Evison took the lead in the past month from Yeppoon (Qld) rider Errol Frain who led the standings for most of the first part of this year.
The top 15 in each APRA event to April 30 will qualify for The Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships at the Warwick Showgrounds on October 27-30.
While the finals format is designed so every qualifier has a chance to win the title, the leaders have the best chance as they will take carryover points into the finals based on the prize money they won in each individual event during the season.
Evison is the only multiple standings leader late in the APRA season – he is on top of the all around cowboy and team roping header standings.
APRA executive chairman Lee Kimber (Lockington, Vic) is performing well in the rodeo arena as well as the boardroom and is on top of the rope and tie standings.
Nilma North rider Aaron Bookluck, a past title winner, leads the team roping heeler standings.
In cowgirl ranks, Bunyip rider Shianne O’Donoghue-Kent maintains her lead in the barrel race and it is the same in breakaway roping where Elley Hulls from Leongatha has maintained her lead on top of the leader board.
While a lot of the action in the first three months of the APRA year was in Victoria, all of the action in the next two months will be in New South Wales and Queensland.
STANDINGS LEADERS: All around Terry Evison (Lockington, Vic); saddle bronc John McNamee (Mitchell, Qld); bull ride Rod Thorp (NSW); bareback Ben Hall (Tumbarumba, NSW); rope and tie Lee Kimber (Lockington, Vic); steer wrestling Errol Frain (Yeppoon, Qld); team roping header Terry Evison (Lockington, Vic), team roping header Aaron Bookluck (Nilma North, Vic), all around cowgirl Stephanie Gard (Table Top, NSW); barrel race Shianne O’Donoghue-Kent (Bunyip, Vic); breakaway roping Elley Hulls (Leongatha, Vic).
APRA PROGRAM: April 15 Warwick Heritage Week Concretors Bull Ride; April 22 Moree Show Rodeo; April 24 Ettamogah Pub Rodeo, Albury; April 29 Narrabri Show Rodeo; May 1 St George (Qld) Show Rodeo; May 7 Nebo Rodeo; May 27 Bundaberg Show Rodeo.
