Top nominations in rough stock events at Bundaberg
THERE are 22 nominations for the second division bull ride at the Bundaberg Amber Ranch Rodeo on Saturday night. (Sept 10)
Robert McPhee is the stock contractor for the rodeo at the Amber Ranch and Horse Riding Centre which starts at 6pm Saturday.
The numbers in second-division events in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association show a large number of young riders are keen to break through the ranks into open competition.
Bundaberg rider Liam Cann has enjoyed a lot of success in junior events and will be one to watch in the second-division bull ride on Saturday night.
In the open events, two Wandoan riders will start favourites in the horse rides.
Cameron Webster is a short-priced favourite in saddle bronc and it is the same with David Worsfold in the bareback.
Bundaberg is one of the lead-up events to The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals on October 27-30 at the Warwick Showgrounds.
Webster and Worsfold have both qualified for the national finals and will compete in all four rounds at Warwick.
Worsfold won the title last year when the national finals were held in Warwick for the first time in three decades.
The ladies will be catered for at Bundaberg with barrel races at both open and junior level.
P.J. Hanrahan from Gogango in Central Queensland will be one to watch in the open barrel race.
An Xtreme Bull Ride is the second APRA event on Saturday and one of the favourites for the Albury Xtreme Bulls will be Dysart rider Sonny Schafferius.
After this weekend, the next APRA rodeo in the lead-up to Warwick is on October 2 at Marrabel in South Australia.
