TOWNSVILLE rider Campbell Hodson could claim to be the form rider in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association after winning the rope and tie and team roping at the St Brendan’s College Rodeo at Yeppoon.
The rodeo at Yeppoon is the last in Queensland before The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals on October 27-30 at the Warwick Showgrounds.
Hodson joined with Liam Davison from Charters Towers to win the team roping. Both have qualified in team roping for the national finals, Hodson in 14th place in header standings and Davison n 4th place in heelers.
The wins at Yeppoon have boosted Hodson’s standings in the new season. He is currently 6th in the rope and tie and 9th in team roping.
He won’t be in the rope and tie finals at Warwick this year as he missed the top-15 but the odds are he will be there in 2017 going on his current position in the standings.
Mitchell rider Greg Hamilton showed he is in form for the national finals in saddle bronc with a win at St Brendan’s.
None of the bull riders made time at St Brendan’s which is not unusual in the modern era where bulls are being bred to buck.
One of the cowgirls to watch this season is Emerald star Leanne Caban who won the breakaway roping at St Brendan’s to extend her lead in early season standings.
The new season standings started on May 1 and the top-15 as at September 30 next year will compete for this season’s national finals in Warwick next year.
Some Queensland riders are expected to compete at the Marrabel Rodeo in South Australia on October 2 to fine tune their form for the national finals.
