BORGHERO ONE OF THE FAVOURITES FOR NFR

A COWBOY ranked 15^th is one of the favourites for the Bull Riding title at The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals on October 27-30.

Beaudesert rider Jared Borghero won the final and aggregate at this year’s Mt Isa Rodeo so will have form on the board as he heads to the Warwick Showgrounds next week.

He scored 75 for equal sixth in round 1 at Mt Isa and was the only rider to make time in the final for a score of 86, the highest at Mt Isa in any rough stock event this year.

While the leaders in the Bull Ride after the 2015-2016 pro tour will take some carryover points into the National Finals, the finals format is designed that even the 15^th placed rider can win the title with a strong  performance in the four rounds at the Warwick Rodeo.

Borghero’s toughest opposition will come from Tamworth rider Jason O’Hearn who had a comfortable lead in the standings at the end of the pro tour and past World Rookie Bull Ride champion Brad Pierce from Tooma (NSW) who is ranked seventh. Pierce is the only rider to qualify for both saddle bronc and bull ride national finals.

Last year’s title winner Troy Wilkinson from Upper Horton in New South Wales is ranked fifth and a strong chance next week.

Young (NSW) rider Ben Thorp is second in bull ride standings and Nebo (Qld) cowboy Mitchell Paton third so can’t be discounted in the four rounds of the National Finals on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon of the Warwick Rodeo.

Northern Territory pair Darcy McBean and Mark Lamberth are placed fourth and sixth in the rankings and have experience at National Finals level.

Lamberth won the Mt Isa Rodeo open bull ride in 2015 so has proved he can perform in big time rodeos.
