KAPUNDA cowboy Daniel Pearson is one of the favourites for the Wilmington Rodeo on January 28 after recording two firsts and one second at the Carrieton Rodeo during the Christmas Run in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
Pearson won the Rope and Tie in 10.4 seconds and was first and second in Team Roping at Carrieton.
He won Team Roping with Gary Tielen, of Angaston, and recorded a second when he teamed with Kevin Reynolds Jnr from Kapunda.
Pearson is 19th in APRA Team Roping Header standings and only needs to continue his current form to make it into the top-15 and qualification for the National Finals at the Warwick Rodeo in Queensland in October.
In the Saddle Bronc at Carrieton, David Stacey from Goolwa was first overall and won the two rounds after being the only cowboy to ride time on two horses.
He won round 1 with a score of 73 and then recorded one of the best scores of the season in the APRA to win round 2 with 84. He will be the one to beat at Wilmington.
The Wilmington Rodeo will be on January 28 at the Wilmington Rodeo Grounds with bucking and timed event stock provided by Ron Woodall and Noel Fraser.
After Wilmington, all rodeo interest in South Australia will move to the 30th annual Peterborough Rodeo on February 4.
