Kenny increases lead with five placings down south
EMERALD cowboy Shane Kenny has increased his lead in Australian Professional Rodeo Association All Around standings with a successful Christmas Run in New South Wales and Victoria.
Kenny recorded one win on the Christmas Run with victory in the Rope and Tie at Tumbarumba in New South Wales on New Year’s Day.
He recorded a time of 10.3 seconds to win from Lockington (Vic) and former Kalbar (Qld) rider Lee Kimber.
The Emerald cowboy was second in the Rope and Tie at Finley (NSW), second in Steer Wrestling at Beechworth (Vic) and fifth in Steer Wrestling at Yarrawonga (Vic).
He capped off a top fortnight with a second in Team Roping at Finley in combination with Townsville rider Campbell Hodson.
Kenny’s daughter Ellysa won the open Barrel Racing bonus at Tumbarumba with a time of 17.167 seconds and also won Junior Barrel races at Tumbarumba, Finley and Yarrawonga. She was second in the junior event at Myrtleford (Vic) and third in the open at Beechworth and fifth at Yarrawonga.
In Saddle Bronc at Tumbarumba, Millmerran rider John McNamee won with a score of 76 on the John P Gill horse Topshelf. He also won the event at Beechworth.
McNamee won the APRA title for 2016 at The Warwick Rodeo National Finals in October and is in the form which has made him favourite for his hometown rodeo on March 4.
The Millmerran Show Rodeo will be the first APRA rodeo in Queensland this year and bucking stock will come from the strings of Frank Biddle and Gill Brothers.
After Millmerran, the Queensland action will move to Easter with rodeos at Roma and Emerald.
Many Queensland riders will be heading to Victoria for a long weekend of rodeo on March 10-12.
