Rodeo action at Harveydale, Neerim and Wilmington this weekend in APRA
RODEOS will be held in three states in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association over the Australia Day weekend.
The first rodeo will be at Harveydale in Tasmania on Friday. (Jan 26)
The rodeo will start at noon at the grounds on Harveydale-Biralee Rd, Westbury, and there will be action in timed and rough stock events.
There will be 23 cowgirls in the open barrel race and 17 in the junior event. After competing in last year’s national final rodeo in Warwick, Penguin cowboy Gary King will compete in roping on Friday.
On Saturday, there are rodeos at Neerim in Victoria and Wilmington in South Australia. (Jan 27)
The Neerim Rodeo starts at 6pm Saturday at the Neerim Recreation Grounds.
One of the riders to watch will be Rosewood (NSW) competitor Tim Hammond in saddle bronc. There are 19 riders in the two bull rides at Neerim in Victoria.
There will be two rounds of the open and second-division bull rides at the Wilmington (SA) Rodeo on Saturday from 7pm at the Wilmington Rodeo Grounds.
Lewiston cowgirl Dakota Michaelis will compete in the barrel race and breakaway roping after being crowned Miss Rodeo Australia last weekend in Warwick in Queensland.
She will be one of the favourites in a field of 30 in the barrel race.
There are five rodeos in the first fortnight in February, Ulverstone (Tas) and Wagga Pro Rodeo (NSW) on February 3 and Ballarat (Vic), Penrith Xtreme Bulls (NSW) and Ross (Tas) on February 10.
