LOCKYER Valley rider Cheyenne Whitwell is the highest placed Queensland rider in Australian Professional Rodeo Association standings.
Whitwell is fourth in the standings going into rodeos this Saturday at the Narrandera Rodeo Grounds in New South Wales and Whittlesea Showgrounds in Victoria.
There are 204 nominations for the rodeo from 6:30pm at Narrandera.
The Whittlesea Rodeo from 6:00pm has attracted 178 nominations.
Some women also compete with one of the men in team roping.
New South Wales rider Tylen Gibb leads the barrel racing standings from Adele Edwards from NSW. Victorian rider Julie Breed is third.
In the breakaway roping, Stacey Wilburn from NSW leads from Victorian pair Cherie O’Donoghue and Nicole McDonald.
O’Donoghue hails from Lockington in Victoria and has won more all around titles in the APRA than any other cowgirl.
While she might rate breakaway roping as her best event, O’Donoghue is also strong in the barrel race.
In the all around standings, O’Donoghue is the leader after four months of the season.
She is in front of current all around titleholder Elley Hulls from Leongatha in Victoria.
Breed and Amber Burns are third and fourth in the standings and Whitwell fifth in the all around.
The next two months will go a long way to shaping the standings leader this season with three rodeos on the March long weekend in Victoria and eleven on the Easter long weekend.
The long weekend rodeos are at Kyabram, Merrijig and Chiltern.
As was the program last year, there will be 11 rodeos in three states at Easter.
There will be a full championship points rodeos and timed event rodeos at both Roma and Emerald in Queensland.
Deniliquin and Barooga have rodeo’s in New South Wales at Easter and there are four rodeos in Victoria, Great Western, Omeo, Buchan and Lang Lang.
