QLD RIDERS HAVE THE CHANCE TO MOVE UP

QUEENSLAND riders have the chance to move up Australian Professional Rodeo Association standings as the next 12 rodeos are in Queensland. (This weekend’s rodeos May 4 and 5)

Other than rodeos at Roma and Emerald at Easter, most of the action for the first seven months of the season has  been in the southern states.

The leaders of all around and most rodeo events are from interstate led by Victorian cowboy Terry Evison who heads the all around cowboy, rope and tie, steer wrestling and team roping header standings.

In cowgirl events, Elley Hulls from Victoria is on top of the all around standings and second in the barrel race.

The only Queenslander at the top of the standings is Charters Towers rider Liam Davison in the team roping heeler standings.

The Blackwater Rodeo in Central Queensland is from 5:30pm on Saturday at the Blackwater Rodeo Grounds and there are two show rodeos this weekend.

There are show rodeos on Saturday at Goondiwindi starting at 7pm and then on Sunday at St George starting at 5pm.

All three rodeos this weekend are for championship points in the APRA.

All eight championship events will be contested at Blackwater with stock from Dunne Bulls Pty Ltd, George Busby and Destiny Cattle Company Pty Ltd.

The two show rodeos will feature the three rough stock events in the APRA, saddle bronc, bull and bareback bronc rides.

Stock for the show rodeos are being provided by Upper Horton (NSW) contractors Gill Brothers Rodeo. The bulls from Malcolm and Eddie Gill have a great record against the best riders in Australia. There are rodeos when there are no times in the bull ride due to the quality of the bulls.

In early June, the Bowen River Rodeo Committee is organising three rodeos on successive days which makes a long trip to North Queensland even more worthwhile.

A second division timed event rodeo is on the Friday, June 7, and then open rodeos on the Saturday and Sunday.
