THREE couples from Queensland will be among the qualifiers when the Australian Professional Rodeo Association heads to the Warwick Showgrounds for title battles on October 22-25.
Four rounds will be contested in all eight events at the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships.
Rodeo is one of the true family sports where men and women can each compete on the same day at the same venue.
Many women go head-to-head with the men in team roping.
Clancy and Tenielle Middleton from Hughenden will compete in four events between them at the championships, Clancy in rope and tie, steer wrestling and team roping and Tenielle in the barrel race.
It is the same with the Kenny family from Emerald with Shane in three timed events and Leanne in the barrel race.
Mark and Tamara Knox from Ebenezer in the Ipswich/Moreton area have both qualified for Warwick, Mark qualified eighth in the rope and tie and Tamara 13th in breakaway roping.
Clancy Middleton and Shane Kenny are each in three events and in the top three in the all around going into the championships so are realistic chances to win the all around cowboy title at Warwick.
A win would be the first all around at the finals for Clancy.
Shane is the most prolific title winner in APRA history and would chalk up his 15th all around in 24 years if successful.
Mark Knox is a past all around winner in the APRA but will not be eligible this year as he is only contesting one event at the finals.
APRA riders will have the chance to maintain their form for Warwick by contesting many rodeos in the new season, starting with 11 in Queensland and three in the Northern Territory in the first four months of the new season.
