NEBO cowboy Mitchell Paton will be one of the favourites for the two bull rides at the Alton Downs Double Dip Rodeo at Lazy Acres on December 31-January 1.
The rodeo will be the first at the new rodeo complex at Lazy Acres where all eight Australian Professional Rodeo Association championship events will be featured.
Paton will not get it all his own way at Alton Downs with Jarod Borghero one to watch when he jumps on top of a bucking bull.
Borghero started his bull riding career at Beaudesert and now lives in Central Queensland. He is also an accomplished bull fighter.
Two of their toughest opponents from down south will be Toowoomba rider Ben Palmer and Upper Horton cowboy Jackson Gill.
Gill will also be helping out in the back yard as his family is contracting the bucking stock for Alton Downs.
Members of the Iker, Kenny and Caban families are likely to win some of the prize money at Alton Downs.
Shane and Leanne Kenny from Emerald and Shane’s brother Kacey will be three to watch at Alton Downs along with father-and-son Shane and Jordan Iker and Shane’s wife Jorja, a top chance in both cowgirl events.
The Cabans from Emerald and Moree will compete, Dale and Leanne from Emerald, Troy and Wendy from Moree. Currently Wendy leads the all around cowgirl standings in the APRA.
The top-two riders in APRA all around cowboy standings are Shane Iker and Shane Kenny. In the rope and tie, Kenny is the standings leader.
Yeppoon rider Errol Frain will return from competition on the Christmas Run in the southern states to compete in one of the closest APRA rodeos to his hometown.
Frain is the current leader in steer wrestling standings in the APRA and competing at Alton Downs and down south on the Christmas Run over the holiday period could mean he will have an even greater lead by the second weekend in January.
Alton Downs New Years Eve and New Years Day Rodeos will commence at 6pm both days at Lazy Acres.
