WANDOAN rider David Worsford has re-affirmed he will be the bareback bronc rider to watch in the 2016 year.
Last year, Worsfold won the bareback title at the Warwick Rodeo Australian Championships.
After a slow start to the 2016 season, Worsfold has started a move up the standings and won both events at Alton Downs in the first full rodeos at the Lazy Acres complex.
Worsfold was one of three riders to win both rodeos at Alton Downs. Emerald rider Shane Kenny won both rope and ties and Jorja Iker, of Alton Downs, had two breakaway roping wins.
Other Queensland rough stock winners at Alton Downs were Springsure rider Allan Powell and Mitchell star Greg Hamilton who won the two saddle bronc rides.
While Worsfold was starring at Alton Downs, Millmerran pair Peter Moffatt and John McNamee, and Warwick riders Peel Tribe and Lane Grayson were recording saddle bronc placings on the Christmas Run in the southern states.
Moffatt was first at Yarrawonga with a score of 75 and split first with Heath Chalmers at Tumbarumba, also with 75.
McNamee was fourth at Myrtleford and fifth at both Yarrawonga and Tumbarumba.
Tribe was third at Myrtleford, fourth at Tumbarumba and fifth at Yarrawonga while Grayson won open and second division saddle bronc at Carrieton in South Australia.
Moffatt and McNamee will get their chance to win prize money at their hometown rodeo on February 27 at the Millmerran Showgrounds.
The Millmerran Rodeo will be held in two different arenas at the showgrounds, the timed events will start at 1pm and the rough stock rides at 6.30pm.
Some of the best bucking stock in the nation will be at Millmerran from the Gill Brothers string from Upper Horton (NSW) and bull riding contractor Frank Biddle from Warwick.
The Comet Benefit Rodeo will be held on March 19 and then two rodeos at both Roma and Emerald on the March 25-28 Easter weekend. Competitors will need to finish in the top-15 in the standings by the end of April to qualify for this year’s Australian Championships.
