MT ISA RODEO GAINS MAJOR EVENT STATUS

We are very excited to finally be able to share with you today's Queensland Government announcement that the Isa Rodeo has been granted Major Event status.

We have been working hard towards this goal with the State Government and Tourism and Events Queensland, and it is a very exciting outcome for the event.

It would not have been possible without your very valued support, contribution and commitment to the Isa Rodeo. Thank you, and I look forward to continuing to work with you and our State Government stakeholders to continue to grow and strengthen our legendary event.

Thank you again for your most valued support and I look forward to welcoming you all to our wonderful event in August.

PRESS RELEASE
MOUNT ISA MINES ROTARY RODEO RECEIVES MAJOR BOOST

The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo has joined Queensland’s Major Events calendar in recognition of its growth and importance to the state’s tourism industry.
Member for Mount Isa Robbie Katter said he was delighted the Queensland Government had given the iconic Mount Isa event such a boost.
“Since it began in 1959, the Mount Isa Rodeo has gone from strength to strength,” Mr Katter said.
“It’s now the largest rodeo in the southern hemisphere and a must see for people from around Australia and the world.
“Last year we saw more than 25,000 visitors, which more than doubled the size of the town.
“This new status means greater support from the State Government in terms of funding.
“This funding will help the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo grow which means more tourism dollars for local businesses and more local jobs.”
Mr Katter said that major events status was an important recognition of the hard work of the volunteers who deliver the Rodeo every year.
“This is acknowledgement of hard work of all the volunteers who have made this event grow year-on-year,” he said.
“I thank the Combined Rotary Clubs of Mount Isa for their continuing commitment to our community.”
Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo Manager Ms Natalie Flecker said major events status would help with the goal of making the event one of the best in the world.
“Mount Isa is very proud to be Australia’s rodeo capital and this valuable support will help us take the Isa Rodeo to the next level. We are very grateful for the Government’s support and belief in this event,” Ms Flecker said.
“This news could not have come at a better time. We have a new board and a strong team focussed on strengthening the visitor experience and planning for continued growth.
“If you haven’t been to the Isa Rodeo, we are ready to give you a very genuine Outback Queensland welcome and an experience you truly will never forget.”
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo is a not-for-profit event as a project of the Combined Rotary Clubs of Mount Isa and delivered by more than 600 volunteers. Rotary has donated more than $4 million to local charities, sporting and community groups since the rodeo’s first event in 1959.
Three days of world-class rodeo action is complemented by a rodeo festival including a free street party, outdoor concerts, mardi gras parade, Mailman’s Express horse race, Fred Brophy’s Outback Boxing Troupe and more.
The 2016 Mount Isa Rodeo runs from 12 to 14 August 2016. www.isarodeo.com.au
