HUGHENDEN couple Clancy and Tenielle Middleton will be two of the riders to watch as rodeo action hots up in Queensland in the next three months.
The next APRA rodeo is the Bundaberg Show Rodeo on Friday night and then the Bowen River Rodeo in North Queensland on June 11-12.
Queensland riders then have the Northern Run to look forward to starting with Emerald on July 8-9 and culminating in the Mt Isa Rodeo on August 12-14.
There are 66 nominations for the Bundaberg Show Rodeo, including Glenn Lefoe in the steer wrestling and Jane Willoughby in the ladies breakaway.
Action starts at 6pm Friday 27th May at the Bundaberg Show Precinct.
Clancy is one of the top all around cowboys in timed events in the nation.
Like many of his fellow timed event stars, Clancy is good across all three timed events, steer wrestling, rope and tie and team roping.
He has won pro tour titles down the years and has the chance to go for more pro tour titles in the current season which started on May 1 this year and will go to September 30 next year.
Last season, Clancy was 7th in all around, 11th in rope and tie, 12th in steer wrestling and second behind Victorian cowboy Terry Evison in team roping header standings.
The change in season is to line up better with The Warwick Rodeo National Finals which will be held each year on the last weekend in October.
Clancy’s wife Tenielle grew up competing in rodeo in the Central Highlands and was 15th in the all around cowgirl standings in the season to April 30.
She was 14th in barrel racing last season to qualify for the national finals in Warwick on October 27-30. She missed this year’s finals in breakaway roping but has the chance in the next three months to move into the top-15 early with a view to qualification for the 2017 national finals in Warwick.
Rodeo program: May 27 Bundaberg Show Rodeo; June 11-12 Bowen River Rodeo; July 8-9 APRA Junior Nationals Finals Emerald; July 9 Emerald Ag Grow Rodeo; July 30 Taroom Rodeo.
