Cross Border battle hots up for bareback
TWO of the favourites for the bareback title in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association are Wandoan rider David Worsfold and Fred Osman from Tibooburra in New South Wales.
The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals are in Warwick on October 27-30, the second successive time the finals have been held as part of the most famous rodeo in Australia.
Worsfold won the bareback title last year at the Warwick Showgrounds and is already in top form in the new season.
Osman hails from Tibooburra in north west New South Wales but his family has property in the Gore area west of Warwick so will have some strong local support at the finals.
The Tibooburra cowboy is a past title winner but will not go into the finals as a standings leader. Due to work commitments and distance, Osman doesn’t compete in as many rodeo as some but has the ability to rise to the occasion for the major events.
He was a runaway winner when he won his first bareback title in the APRA.
The first three rounds of the finals will be on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and then the final round on the Sunday afternoon at the Warwick Showgrounds. Second division and junior events will also be held as part of the rodeo.
While the leaders in each event will carry pro tour points into the finals, it will be performances in the four rounds in Warwick which will largely determine the title winners.
All of the riders who had the most success in event finals last year in Warwick won the titles.
